Ninja Turtle Costume

My daughter decided she wanted to dress up as Leonardo from the ninja turtles, and my wife decided we should do home made costumes. My son decided to be Michael Angelo. The front and back shells are made from interlocking mats, glued with contact cement, coated with mod podge, painted with acrylic paint, and clear lacquer for protection. The green suit was bought secondhand at Value Village and was a little large which was perfect out cold Halloween for extra layers underneath. I cut up an old hoola-hoop and wrapped it in foam for the swords. Hockey gloves were wrapped in excess green suit pieces, with fingers glued together to make “3 finger hands”. Knee and elbow pads were wrapped with blue felt and glued with spray adhesive. I repurposed some old Fanny packs for the straps and buckles to make the shells easily removable. The final touch was a school bag attatched to the inside of the back shell so treats could be placed in the school bag rather than carrying a bag/pale!
