Homemade Halloween Costumes

Welcome to our Gallery of fun, frightening and fantastically freakish homemade Halloween costumes! Here at Costume Works we think our readers are some of the most talented costume makers in the world and we love showcasing their work.

Castaway Couple Halloween Costume

Our readers are constantly working on their next Halloween costume and they send us photos all year long. By sharing these photos here on the site we're hoping we can help spread the word that making your own costume is really the best way to go.

As you scroll through our Photo Gallery you'll see some pretty gruesome costumes, costumes you'd never be able to find in a store. Costumes so scary you'll start to wonder about the mental state of the person behind the design!

You'll see some really creative looks based on television shows and popular movies. Again, you'd never be able to find these costumes in a store yet they're always the most-talked-about costumes at the party.

Headless Scientist Halloween Costume Idea for Kids

Kids especially love dressing up for Halloween and if you've looked at the costumes you can buy off-the-rack you know that they're very expensive, they're very poorly made and they look totally cheesy. Not to mention the fact that your kid ends up looking like every other kid in town and how much fun is that?

But scroll through our Costume Photo Gallery and look at all of the happy children who've sent us the pics of their DIY Halloween costumes. Sure, some of these kids probably had an adult involved somewhere in the creation, but you can tell by looking at these kids that this is the best costume they've ever had. And it's all because they got to use their imagination.

Halloween costumes don't have to be expensive or time-consuming to make. Some of these creations were whipped up on a whim, only an hour or two before the party. And most are made with items you find around your home or with bits and pieces picked up at thrift stores for just a few bucks. Overall, most cost less than you'd spend for a ready-made costume you buy at the store.

Most of our readers also send us the story behind the creation so feel free to click on any pic you like and see how it's made. Start putting together ideas for your own homemade Halloween costume and send us your pics for our Halloween Costume Contest. We'd love to include your picture in our gallery!
