A word from Kelynn, the 'Jack Skellington, Sally & Zero' costume creator:

Hello. My boyfriend and I dressed up as Jack, Sally and Zero from "The Nightmare before Christmas" this year. This is my favorite Tim Burton movie and where our idea came from.

I did make all of our costumes - most of the material came from the Goodwill. The suit was purchased for $15 and I cut and sewed it to make it look like a tux jacket, then used white chalk paint marker to add the stripes to jacket and pants. The bowtie is felt, lined with the chalk paint and a plastic bat glued to the middle. The dress was made using a cheap $9 black dress which I cut the neckline and sleeves, then used 5 shirts ($12 at Goodwill) as the other material and cut, pinned and sewed the pieces over the black. Sharpie markers were used to draw the designs on the fabric pieces and black yarn was used for the large stitching on the dress. Sally's wig was a $17 Amazon purchase, the rose was from a craft store for $2 (halloween sale) and Jack's gloves from the Spirit store for $10.

Zero was made using a hot glue gun, packing tape, a styrofoam ball (from a local craft store in the flower section), a cut plastic bottle, part of a small cardboard box, 3 wire hangers, an old pillow case, felt for the eyes and ears and a light-up jack-o-latern ring (which I cut the ring part off and glued the pumpkin part to a wine cork, which was inserted in the plastic bottle opening). I have included a picture from before and after I added the pillow case to show the assembly. One wire hanger was used so that we could have something to hang on to and make it look as though Zero was floating, like he does in the movie.

All of the make-up, Mehron brand (cake and cream - teal cake, black and white cream, plus setting powder), was purchased on Amazon and were the most expensive items of our costume at about $50 for the 4 items we bought. I have very sensitive skin and HIGHLY recommend this brand - no issues with my skin, no cracking while wearing it and it washed off rather easily with soap and hot water!

I did both of our make-up and it took about 5 hours total. 3.5 hours for mine as Sally as my face, neck, chest, arms and legs were all done with makeup. 1.5 for my boyfriend's (the baldy cap was the worst part of all of the prep!).

18 hours for creating the costumes, 5 hours for make-up and approximately $125 for all we purchased (we did have quite a bit of supply at home so did not need any glue, tape, sewing materials, or shoes and the only purchase for zero was the felt). As you can see, we had a blast dressing up this year!
