A word from Dani, the 'Animal Drums' costume creator:

My 13 year old is a percussionist and just started taking drum lessons this year. Animal is such and iconic drummer character and thought it would be a great character to go as for Halloween! I googled costumes and found more homemade costume heads/costumes, so I looked through all of the ideas and then came up with ideas to make my son's costume head.

I started with a big pumpkin head costume head. It was fabric, so I knew I could cut or sew on it if needed. Other items I used: A full skene of red yard for the hair, a small amount of pink and orange yarn for highlights on the front of the head and the mustache and used packaging tape and glue gun to apply the hair. The eyes and nose were 3" diameter foam balls, I cut some off to make them flat for the eyes so they would sit back from the nose. The nose I covered with red felt. I used black marker to make the pupils on the eyes. The eyebrows was some black Halloween garland I had. I had some orange organza material that he could see through to make the part he looked out of not as obvious. For the mouth, I cut and folded the fabric back, glued a piece of cardboard inside to make the mouth more 3D. Used a plastic table cloth to make the mouth an used darker red felt to make a tongue inside. The bottom jaw is made from a pool noodle with orange felt covering it and sewed and glue gun to attach it. The teeth are made out of white foam sheet, cut them out and glue gun them on.

For the rest of the costume, my son had a long sleeve orange shirt that we bought an Animal t-shirt to go over, we bought orange stretch gloves and long orange socks, and a pair of pants from Goodwill and cut to be shorts and his belt is some rope we had. We had a plastic chain and I used some silver duct tape I had with two older empty tape rolls to make the "metal" wrist cuffs. And of course the drumsticks we had.

I had most of the items except the head, foam balls, shirt, gloves and socks. Probably cost around $50.
