This homemade costume for families entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest, and won 4th place in the Favorite Halloween Costume nomination!

A word from Stephanie, the 'Mr. Fredrickson, Kevin & Russel' costume creator:

Disney's Up is the inspiration for our family costumes this year. My husband is Mr. Fredrickson, my son is Russel, and I am Kevin from Up.

I made all of our costumes for under 15 dollars. I bought felt to make the bird costume and used cardboard to make the frame. Once I made the frame I hot-glued stuffing from a pillow on the beak and covered the structure in the felt, using hot-glue. I sewed the bird body and then hot glued all the feathers onto the outfit. I then stuck some pillows into the outfit to make my body a little fuller.

My husband's and son's costumes were much easier than mine. We found cloths that fit the costumes at the DI and made a sash and bow tie. My husband build the house out of paper and we bought ballons the night of and hot-glued the house to the ballons.

It was a blast to wear this costume, everyone loved seeing the Up characters in real life.

Very creative and cute! The house hanging from the balloons is a great touch.

Hi! I would love to know in detail how you made the neck and face/beak. I'm trying to wrap my head around it. Thank you. :)

I used cardboard to create the form of the neck and head, then I used batting attached with hot glue to make the shapes softer looking (like around the cheeks and beak.) Then I used hot glue to attach the felt around the card board form. I sewed the outfit with my machine, then hot glued the feathers on the back.

I love these outfits and my son loves the movie Up !!!! Is the front part of the body for Kevin made out of felt as well? I bought all the felt today and I'm having my mom help me with the costumes and she thinks it's a tee shirt :/
Thanks for the awesome pictures !!! :)

It is felt also, but a T shirt could work Too. The hardest post for me was trying to figure out a way to have the head piece sit on my head. I had straps that I tied around my chin and were kinda of uncomfortable. I don't know how else to make the head part stay up. Good luck

Did you create a pattern for the neck and head? Also how did the neck stay on? How did it attach to you?
