A word from Nicole, the 'Tamatoa' costume creator:

This year my daughter wanted to be Tamatoa from Moana. She loves the song Shiny! THere wasnt much online for ordering a costume so I went to Hobby Lobby for felt to make the headpiece, spraypaint, and a base for her shell. I found some cute pants, a simple shirt and ordered plain red crab claws from Amazon. I got spray paint to paint them to look like his. I took a bunch of shells I've collected since I was a kid and put gold glitter spray paint and gold or purple nail polish to cover them. I took a plain foam circle (I'm guessing to make a wreath out of) and made a back support out of cardboard, put straps on it, filled it with stuffing, covered it in gold fabric to shape like a shell and hot glued all the sparkly shells and necklaces to it. I made Maui's hook and Te Fiti's heart out of clay, baked it and painted it. All together it was around $60 to make the costume but the reaction from my daughter and other kids as well as adults was well worth it. People were very impressed and everyone knew who she was supposed to be. One lady said I should sell it online to make some money.
