This homemade costume for groups entered our 2011 Halloween Costume Contest, and won 5th place in the Favorite Halloween Costume nomination!

A word from Jill, the 'Loofah Girls' costume creator:

Who is wearing the costume: Jill Smith, Renee Smith, Dana Smith, Valerie Forsyth, Allison Zembrodt.

The 5 of us went to Las Vegas for Halloween. We wanted a unique costume that would turn heads. Renee came up with the idea after several months of trying to decide what we were going to be.

This was the cheapest costume we ever made. We each bought a different color tulle. (40 yards for $10.95) This was more than enough but since it was so cheap we went ahead and bought extra. We bunched up the tulle and safety pinned it to a tank top. It took about one hour for each costume. We wore a matching pair of shorts, flip flops, and tied a rope around our neck. We also wore a small loofah on our wrist.

This costume was a hit. The people in Vegas loved us. We took about 1000 pictures with people. I'm sure Vegas will be full of Loofahs next Halloween.

Jill great to be young. eager and dangerous. I bet you were a sight to be seen. I imagine the men hide behind you some where and said are those girls part of our life. Only in Vegas one would venture to enjoy themself as you girls did. Look at all the attention you received and it cost you a few pennies. Need to add the cost of the bottle beer also. All kidding aside as long as you had a good time the heel to what others thought. Uncle Roland

Really?? There are sooo many killer costumes on here, and this is not a top 10 entry imo.... I think the way this contest is judged is crazy! what if you build an awesome costume, but choose not to use FB, twitter or other social sites. I give you credit for the Idea and the construction, but def not a top 10.

Thanks for the vote Justin.....you rock. Sorry you aren't as popular as the Loofah Girls and you aren't getting the votes you need. I think they are definitely a top ten. I've never seen anything like this before. Very creative and original! Good Luck girls!

#32 comment by jaclyn October 9, 2012

Do u know if u can buy these costumes??

#33 comment by Jill October 10, 2012

We made them. It was very easy. We just bought tulle and safety pins. We bunched up the material and pinned it to a tank top. And wore a short pair of matching shorts.

#34 comment by Amanda October 10, 2012

Where did you buy the tulle fabric for that cheap ?!

#35 comment by Jill October 11, 2012

We found it really cheap online. I don't remember the website though. Just google it. All together the whole costume was under $10.

#36 comment by jakjfkajfdifajkl October 17, 2012

Can I buy these costumes anywhere or do I have to make one?

#37 comment by Cathy October 25, 2012

Love these costumes!! Trying to picture how you bunched the tulle. Did you buy the small rolls of tulle or off the bolt?
