The Mermaid Who Got Away Costume

My daughter Amaurie is wearing the costume, she was a preme baby and had a lot of complications and surgeries. She has a lot of cuts and scars on her stomach because of those scars so that year I planned on using it to my advantage to make a gory costume and call it gutted zombies mermaid but my mom convinced me to make her her something nice and pretty that year so instead of gore I went with inspirational. I went to a few stores for this costume (Joans for fabric, Dollar Tree for shells/pearls and Walmart for spray painted and mesh and hot glue sticks. I for a beautiful green and gold sea like material along with shiny sheer gold material that I thought would look perfect for a mermaid fin I cut out the greenish fabric to fit a-line on my daughters waist and legs leaving a little bit more room at the bottom so she could walk. Then with the gold fabric I cut it in sort of a fan shape so it could flare out a little. Because the gold fabric is mesh I layered it so her shoes didn’t show through. With her top I took an old sport bra she had and spray painted it with some fungus green spray paint and a little brown spray paint as well. Then after drying I superglued the white seashells and pearls to the brand then wrapped the mesh around and superglued the mesh to sides of the bra. The I styled her hair added a gold braided hair band and did her make up added a little bit of scales to her face and her scars represent the fishermen who tried to catch her but didn’t because she has the incredible strength inside to always fight for her life (which she has had to do her whole life in real life since birth with all her medical issues).
