|Costume type:||Costumes for Women|
This homemade costume for women entered our 2011 Halloween Costume Contest.
I (Jennifer Tongate), am wearing the costume in the photos. I wanted a costume that still said "sexy" without showing skin you see on so many, yet is still empowering for women. What better icon than Rosie the Riveter to accomplish this?!
The costume cost me a whopping $3.20. I simply borrowed a friend's work shirt (auto repair), purchased a red bandana and paired it all with a pair of high-waisted jeans I've had for years. For the name badge, I took a red marker, made an outline and in the center wrote "Rosie" and taped it over my friend's name. For a Halloween party I attended, I wore a pair of red pumps to spice it up. The costume even won first place for "sexiest costume"! For Halloween at work as a beauty advisor in a department store, I traded in the red pumps for some old flat heeled riding boots that really fit the part. It was rewarding to receive the compliments from the customers passing by who were a part of the WWII era, when Rosie was such an iconic figure.
