A word from Jody, the 'Queen of Hearts' costume creator:

An outdoor escape game event was held in my town and the theme was Alice in Wonderland. Participants were encouraged to dress as characters , so I chose the Queen of Hearts because my hair is red. I had a dress in my closet and to it I hand stitched ribbons and roses that I made from craft foam and deco mesh. I cut hearts from felt , pleated fans from fabric and hot glued playing cards to the ribbon. My biggest challenge was the stand-up collar. It was tough, but I hung in there! I started with a Levelor window blind and I cut it with a serrated bread knife. I cut a white cotton collar off of an old mock turtle neck shirt and then slid a piece of copper sheeting that I had cut to 1 1/2 inches wide , into an open end of the cotton piece. I added lace on the front and back of the collar and hand-stitched it together in spots and hot glued the edges all the way around. I added Velcro in 2 spots to hold it on my neck. I used two 1 1/2 inch strips of metal sheeting on both sides of the collar to help it stand up as well. We had a blast that day! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!! ❤️🌹❤️🌹

I had been letting my hair grow out for a couple months in order to get it to go into the shape of a heart. I practiced a couple times and it worked great on the day of the event. You may notice in a couple of the pics I wasn't wearing the big collar. I tried a plan B and cut slits in my silk shirt and inserted a coat hanger. I wasn't pleased with it at all, so back to the drawing board I went! So glad I did! I loved the heart earrings and scepter I got from Spirit and my friend and neighbor gave me a birthday gift of the bracelet with ring attached that added the perfect touch to complete the ensemble! I hope I have the chance to wear this again sometime!
