Narnia Coronation Costumes

King Peter, Queen Lucy & Aslan

Costume type:  Costumes for Kids
Categories:Halloween Costumes, Movie and TV Show Costumes, Literary Costumes

This homemade costume for kids entered our 2011 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Joni, the 'Narnia Coronation' costume creator:

My grandson fell in love with Narnia a few years ago after watching "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." Last year we we started talking about making costumes and he and my granddaughter selected the coronation outfits - he is King Peter and she is Queen Lucy. With not actual pattern pieces, I improvised by looking at a lot of movie stills and wound up using crushed velvet for her dress and soft velvet for his tunic. I ripped out a lot of seams trying to get things right! Their capes are both lined in satin. It was a huge undertaking, but well worth the smiles and laughter! I recently returned from a trip to the Middle East, so I used a photo of a lion from our local zoo and put them all on a background of the Dead Sea for effect.

Are these for sale? I have searched and searched for good quality, authentic Narnia costumes.

Sorry Megan, these are not for sale. I custom made them for my grandchildren after searching high and low for anything similar. I found this website which discussed their actual costumes to be the most helpful https://costumes.narniaweb.com/peter.asp#coronation. While I am very creative, in real life I'm actually a newspaper editor and only sew very special projects for family members. These were a challenge since I had no actual pattern pieces! Good luck.

UPDATE: It's been a decade since I made these for my first two grandchildren. The JOEY who commented above, passed away just before his 17th birthday a few months ago following surgery following a pool incident. He was our pride and joy. His faith never wavered for a minute. For those who sew a special costume for a loved one, remember the labor of love is remembered for a long time. I get great joy out of seeing pix I took way back then and am so glad that he took the time to pretend he was a parent (!) and share in April 2020, the message above. Rest in peace, sweet Joey.
