A word from Jana, the 'Crayola 64 Crayon Box' costume creator:

I, Jana, am wearing the costume. This idea actually came from looking at this website!

I wanted to make the costume where it is comfortable and maneuverable. I wanted to challenge myself and do the popular 64 pack! something everybody needs to be the “cool kid”! Lol. Yes, I sought out to make ALL 64 crayons. But with my creative skill, it was pretty quick and easy!

Here is what I used:
•Cardstock (can be found at craft stores, I used three different packs. For the green accents on the box, I used two different shades of green 12x12 cardstock. You can also use two different shades of green poster board. The accuracy of the crayons depends on your budget.)
•Metallic Cardstock (Silver and Gold)
•4 Yellow Poster Boards (I purchased mine from Dollar Tree)
•Printer
•A Rectangular Box (I used one from Aldi)
•Green Burlap Ribbon (to match the box)
•Duct Tape
•Hot Glue Gun
•Double Sided Tape

I used a box of 64 Crayola crayons I owned prior as reference. For the crayons, made a design of the wrapper by printing out the Crayola logo and the curvy border on different colors of cardstock. I also included the names of the colors of the crayons. I put the design four times on one sheet and cut them. I rolled up the cardstock with the designs and used the crayons as reference to make the outer part using more cardstock, and then I made mini cones for the tips. For gold and silver, I used metallic cardstock. I hot glued everything together.

I tried making the crayons look as accurate as I could. I glued the tips on the side where the word “Crayola” begins, but I didn’t realize that the black crayon was facing the wrong way until I finished gluing the crayons on the box, so I ask you to look past that… 😅

For the crayon box design, I used a box from Aldi and yellow poster board to cover it up. For the green accents, I used two shades of green 12x12 cardstock. I printed out the Crayola logo and the “64 Crayon Colors” text and used double sided tape to stick them on. I also added a picture of “Tip” on the front, but to make him bigger, I used a website to divide the image into three different parts. For the back, I printed out an image of the crayon box, a box of text, and the sharpener. In the end, I used Posca paint pens to retouch the box.

I glued the crayons behind the box in four rows of sixteen.

I used green burlap ribbon, which matches the green accents on the box, to lay the costume on my shoulders so I could carry it around. I taped each side of the two ribbons.

I bought additional clothes to make my costume more colorful, which is optional. The shirt was purchased off of SHEIN for $8 and the socks for $9 on Amazon. I used braiding hair extensions I have already owned to add color in my hair rather than using a wig. I used two hair ties and clear hair elastics to create the extensions and easily add them in my hair. I found a pencil pouch from Dollar Tree with the Crayola logo on it, as a way to carry things while I’m at Halloween themed events.

This costume is budget friendly and I had a lot of fun making it! 🖍️🌈

How did you make the crayon wrappers

Hello Kristie! I made a design using the Crayola logo and the squiggles on each side, added it four times in one image, and then I printed it many times using different colors of cardstock (paper can be used too!). After that, I cut out the wrapper design and rolled it to look like a crayon wrapper. Hope this helps!
