A word from Kim, the 'Voodoo Family' costume creator:
My husband Mark, my son Xander and I always try to do a family costume. I love tribal face painting and have always wanted to incorporate it into a costume. My husbands costume is just a skull jacket, necklace and top hat. I made his staff from a wooden rod with a foam skull and feathers glued on. My costume is a long black skirt, an old corset, and a skull necklace. I tied a gray cloth (found at walgreens) around my waist and put some skeleton gloves on my arms. My head piece is a caveman bone necklace tied to my head and turned upside down. My son's costume is a jumper made out of burlap. We laced black yarn through the sleeves and neck to simulate stitching. I painted on the heart and laced yarn around that also. For the needles, I took lolipop sticks and spray painted them silver. I painted styrofoam balls in different colors and glued them to the end of the sticks. Inside the costume is foam where the "pins" are going in to keep the needles from leaning downward. My son also had gloves and a bad black wig with the costume, but is not wearing them in picture.
