This homemade costume for women entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Donna, the 'Elton John' costume creator:

I made this costume for myself and won First Place at the local Tavern. There are 4 battery operated light sets in the jacket and coat(which means I had 16 AA batteries on me LOL). (The pictures will be blurry of the lights) The shoes have been painted and glittered...as all Elton John shoes are LOL. I made the jacket, (which has piano keys on the cuffs), hat (yes from scratch), jabot, and pants. This costume lit up so brightly, everyone said I could've directed traffic in it LOL. Every year I try to out do myself, but this one is hard to top. Another note: this costume has recently gone through a devastating fire, but the person I loaned it to rescued it yet sacrificed her own personal belongings, phone, computer, etc. I cried when she returned it to me...I figured it was lost! We hugged, cried, and laughed. I'll be making her a costume every year if she wants one!!!

Awesome Costume.. I am making it ( trying to copy it a bit from you) and its coming out great. Got a all American July 4th costume and took the jacket and put silver material over the red and white stripe and glued it very carefully with 4M spray glue. Came out perfect. The bought a pair of silver pants from eBay for $8.00. Got a blue hat and decorated it with some feathers and a silver band around the hat to match the pants. Bought silver sparkle paper and made the star . Only problem I am having is to make the ELTON letters..

Try a silver fabric that doesn't fray, I used a fabric vinyl and ironed them on with wonder under. Just a hint for the shoes...I modge podged layers of glitter on them...but then they didn't bend or stretch, they were very stiff and tight so make sure the shoes are a little bigger than you need. Send me a pic when you're done dczup[at]yahoo.com. Good Luck!
