A word from Beth, the 'Dry Bowser' costume creator:
My son wanted to be Dry Bowser for Halloween. He is a character from Mario World and Mario Kart. We couldn't find this for purchase anywhere so my mother and I decided to take on the challenge. I took us over a month to create, but, we were very detail up to the eyes that glow red. His tortoise shell was made out of a red dog bed, the pattern was painted on, and the bed already had straps we used to have him carry it on his back. Styrofoam cones were shaved down and spray painted to attach for the spikes on his shell. A vacuum cleaner hose was sewed into the outside of the shell to make it's shape. The head was made out of paper mache, we used a beach ball to get the shape, then covered with a thin fleece, we attached glowing eyes that lit up. We used horns from a viking helmet to use for his horns. The rib cage was made out of upholstery foam sewed into fleece long rectangular tubes that we attached to the shell. We dressed him all in black and then attached white fleece bones to his legs to make him look skeletal. The tail was made out of a cardboard insert from a box of bottles, we cut it apart and attached them together, covered it with thin batting/gauze and spray painted it to match the bone color. Very involved!
