This homemade costume for boys entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Nicole, the 'Top Gun Fighter Pilot' costume creator:

My son, Joshy, loves jets and watching them fly! How better to spawn his enthusiasm than to turn him into the BEST Jet Pilot ever, "Maverick" from Top Gun!

Joshy will "Take Your Breathe Away" as he soars down the street in this stand out costume!

This home-made flight suit and Top Gun Fighter Jet include flashlight afterburners, landing gear, firing missiles, and working acceleration lever.
The flight suit was modeled after a picture of the flight suits from the Top Gun Movie. I copied and applied patches and awards, and trim to the flight suit.

The jet is constructed from cardboard and hot glue and is painted with spray paint and air brush techniques to show shading and depth. Then detail was hand painted on and sharpies were used for fine details. The wings were made detachable, or to fold in so that the costume could be transported. I installed flashlights inside the afterburners. Joshy wanted a missile, so I made it so he could push it out from the inside to shoot it! The control panel was made from a variety of lids and we made the accelerator lever so that it was moveable.

The landing gear was welded together and attached with nuts and bolts to the underside of the jet.
Rayban sunglasses, white t-shirt, shined up dress shoes, and flight school logo hat finish out the costume!

Watch as "Maverick" protects us in his jet as he travels the "Highway to the Danger Zone". Spread out your wings tonight!!! This costume was not difficult to make, or cost a lot of money, just very time consuming to create all the details!
