This homemade costume for families entered our 2017 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Vivian, the 'The Last Dragon Family' costume creator:

Our family decided to dress as characters from The Last Dragon movie this year. My husband Chris was Shonuff, my son Chris was Bruce Leroy, I was one of Shonuff's girl, and my other son Christian was the little brother Richie. We had a lot of fun with this year's costume.

The Shonuff costume by sewing red fabric cut into 2 long rectangles and sewing onto interfacing. I draped both pieces of fabric over the shoulders and sewed the back together where the 2 parts met, the front was sewn into the cheetah belt. I made the belt by cutting a 6 inch wide piece out of a cheetah tshirt. I took a "Turbie Twist" with a cheetah pattern and using a sewing machine and glue gun, I made it into the shape of a cheetah head. I drew on the facial features with a black Sharpie marker. I took a pair of oversized yoga pants cut a strip out the sides and sewed a strip of red fabric on both sides. The flower patches were made with craft foam, the design drawn on with Sharpie and paint, then sewn onto the front of the shoulder strips. To complete the look a wig was added with a pony tail at the top, shutter glasses, and converse sneakers.

For Bruce Leroy: I cut the collar of a button up shirt to make a Mandarin collar. I used white paracord rope and made globe buttons, which were glued onto the shirt as a faux frog closures over the shirt buttons. This gave the shirt a Kung Fu look. I took black scrub pants and sewed elastic into the pant bottoms. We added the asian straw hat, white socks, and nunchucks to complete the look.

Shonuff girl: to make the vest (waistcoat), I took a pair of camo cargo pants and cut around the front of the pant legs and zipper, preserving the double seam on both sides of the pant legs. I cut both the leg pieces from the back of the pants and sewed across each piece so that they were an even strip of fabric. Both leg pieces were sewn together on top of each other, then attached to the front piece of fabric. I made the white head band using red fabric and black paracord and glued it onto a white headband into the design. I added net fingerless gloves, a ripped red shirt, tights, and my hair in a puffy side ponytail to complete the look.

Richie: I took a white button up shirt and using acrylic paint and sponges cut into various size rectangles, I painted the design on the shirt. I also used the tip of a paintbrush handle dipped into paint to add the dots to the shirt. I added a white fedora, boombox radio, grey jogger sweats, and an orange undershirt with the sleeves rolled up to complete the look.
