Katniss and Effie Costume

I came up with the costume idea because I really wanted to make Katniss's cowl. Unfortunately, I don't know how to knit, so I had to use a technique called naalbinding, a method used by the Vikings about 1100 years ago. I'm in a medieval recreation society, the SCA, and I learned this method to make hats and gloves. The cowl is the largest piece I have ever made and it took about two weeks. My friend got in on the idea and did her take on Effie Trinket's butterfly outfit. She found the jacket at a thrift store and went crazy with sewing all the butterflies on it, as well as her head dress and shoes, and of course her amazing makeup. We had a blast recreating these characters!
