A word from Brook, the 'The Borrowers' costume creator:

My daughter is wearing a completely home made costume inspired by the book The Borrowers. She won 1st place in her story book contest at school!!

•The pencil is made from a pool noodle. I painted the end to look like an eraser, added duct tape, and made the end with duct tape and painted them. ( tried to glue a funnel to the end but plastic and foam don't glue well)
• The spool of thread was a 12" concrete foam cut to about 12" in height. I painted it and used some old rope as the thread. The top of the spool is pipe insulation foam cut and spray painted. Once again hot glue does not work well so we used gorilla glue.
• Pin in the spool is a knitting needle and foam ball glued to the end and painted.
• Added a rope and attached to each side with a knot so she could carry it around her neck.
• dress and bow was something we had but any blue dress and green bow would work.
