A word from Luca, the 'Rufio Battle Suit' costume creator:

First time in front of a sewing machine and a glue gun. I'm kind of a kiddo.
Hook was my favorite movie growing up, and Rufio the teenage rebel wannabe I expected to become. When I decided to start creating costumes I saw it big. But I couldn't find references on the Interet, except pictures from the movie of course and some cosplayers whom work was not enough convincing to inspire me.
I was so passionate about creating the most accurate costume that I contacted Dante Basco, aka Rufio himself, so that he could give me some advice on what Rufio's costume was made of, especially his neck thing. I freaked out when he answered ! He told me it was "a contraption of leather"
Well... Let's keep it real. This costume is not vegan, that's for sure, because the bones are 100 % real (chicken and rabbit) ! I collected them at my local butcher shop. I bleached them, weathered them, made holes in each of them and attached them all with some flexible thin electrical cables (I guess) and some tubings. Bamboos, wooden pearls, polymer clay for the teeth necklace and the dragons heads.
It took me a whole year to make this costume because school in France is really time consuming and demanding and I was a dummy in everything...
Concerning the cost : the bones were free, so were the bamboos ( my local gardening shop gave me the broken ones), the leather comes from an old bag and the red fabric from old t-shirts from the thrift store. The most expensive thing must be the leather fabric for the jacket.
This costume became my Halloween go-to ! I share with you the nice photos taken during Japan Expo in Paris :)
