This homemade costume for women entered our 2013 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Sammy, the 'Queen of Hearts' costume creator:

This is me in my Queen of Hearts costume. I saw a corset on pinterest made of cards and it gave me the idea to make an entire costume out of playing cards, specifically hearts.

I started out by making the corset form out of duct tape. After I finished the form, I taped the cards in layers on top of the corset. Once I was finished with that, I finished the edges with duct tape and some extra cards. I put grommets in the back and closed the corset with ribbon.

I made the tutu out of tulle from an idea I got from pinterest. I decided to connect the cris crosses with cards instead of bows. To finish the tutu, I added red bows to each playing card at the bottom.

I made the crown of a small steam punk top hat. I used wired ribbon and hot glued it to make the effect. The top of the crown is a heart that I made out of playing cards. I spray painted it with red glitter.

I spray painted an old pair of silver slippers I had and added glitter to them for the shoes.

The cowl is floral wire that I spiraled, shaped like a hear, and then put mesh tubing on.

Finally, I made the scepter out of a wooden dowel, three wooden hearts, some mesh tubing, ribbon, and glitter spray paint.

I started making the costume in August and I finally finished it last week.
