A word from Taylor, the 'Queen of Hearts and her Ace of Cards' costume creator:

My boyfriend and I decided to be the Queen of hearts and ace of cards after seeing some really cool makeups on pinterest. This option seemed very feasible to my budget and time as I am a graduate student. Almost all the pieces were bought from the thrift store and pieced together to give this authentic look.
Thrifted pieces: My dress- a red prom dress, a black vest, 2 large amounts of fabric for the panels, a black and red pinstriped suit jacket, and a petticoat
His outfit- Black and red pinstriped pants, black and white button up shirt, red vest, extra fabric from above, and a heavy black blazer.
My scepter- is a curtain rod

These pieces probably cost around the $40 mark all together.
We sewed panels onto the dress and vest, added lace to the cuffs and collar of the jacket, and sewed extra fabric in the shape of a diamond on the back of his vest.

We purchased the wig, the hat, my red eyepieces, a deck of cards, basic cream makeup, and eyelashes.

His makeup was a handmade, simple application of liquid latex and toilet paper, concealer, a variety of cream paints, and liquid blood.

You did a wonderful job on your dress, and you did a great makeup application on both of you. I really liked your sceptre.

Creative use of "vintage" and "found" pieces of clothing and materials. Sceptre is really cool! Great job!
