This homemade costume for girls entered our 2016 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Barbara, the 'Princess Ivy' costume creator:

Princess Ivy for Halloween 2015. The costume idea came from Disney's "Sophia the First: The curse of Princess Ivy." My 5-year old granddaughter loved the movie and wanted a costume based on Princess Ivy. The costume was not available to purchase, so I made it. The costume was made in 2 parts: blouse and skirt. Improvised top from dress pattern; the ivy leaves on the blouse were created by finding the perfect ivy picture and printing the leaves on iron transfer paper and ironing onto the bodice and sleeves; the b/w striped design on front of top was made as collar (had to freehand the collar on newspaper); used b/w rope trim at bottom of blouse; and added the red beads. A half circle skirt pattern was created (complements of Youtube). Skirt fabric was purchased online (lightweight upholstery fabric); a wide elastic band for the waist of the skirt was used; added a shimmery layer of netting on top of the skirt (it gave some dimension and a hint of glint); and also created a petticote for the skirt (hardest part of making the costume). My granddaughter enjoyed wearing the costume very much!!

If you ever want to sell your precious Princess Ivy costume, I'll buy it for sure! My granddaughter (almost five) is in love with Princess Ivy and asked for a costume, but I could not find one, either. I am not so gifted at sewing as you! Your little girl IS a princess. Adorable.

Thanks.

I love this! You did an amazing job! My daughter's name is Ivy, so of course she wants to be Princess Ivy for Halloween. I wish there was a costume to buy. I'm not sure I can make this.

how did you create the dragonfly on the skirt? I am not super gifted in this area either but I need to make a size 12/14 for my granddaughter
