Murderer and Victim Costume

Costume type:  Costumes for Women
Category:Halloween Costumes

This homemade costume for women entered our 2017 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Jessica, the 'Murderer and Victim' costume creator:

Lots of trial and error went into this DIY (ONE PERSON) costume. I promise you, my legs are there! This was such a hit - Lots of confused onlookers.

I used a cardboard base for the man behind me. Cut out his shape with a little neck, and duck taped a metal hanger to the top, straightening out the hook. I cut up an old mattress pad to create a softer body - using a lot of duck tape to hold things in place. I used pillow stuffing to stuff the inside of the body and used trial and error to get the right look. Arms for the body were taped up cut pieces of mattress pad and again, trail and error for the look. The body is stuffed into a black t-shirt and kept separated from the hoodie and arms. Hoodie should be a zip front.

The dress is only on attached on my shoulders/arms. I cut a slit all the way across the back of the dress under my shoulder blades and entered through that. Used an old pillow case and duck tape to tape up a body shape, stuffing with pillow stuffing, lots of trial and error on this part to make it look like my body. Fastened the pillow body to the inside of the dress with safety pins. Ripped up with bottom of the dress and added fake blood for effect.

I am wearing men's jeans and my tennis shoes. First, already wearing a black tshirt, I slipped the dress over my shirt and arms. Then, I had assistance positioning the man's body to my back - we used black duck tape to attach the body around my real body. Then, we put the hoodie on the fake body behind me AND around my hips, zipping it up a little bit up the front of my real body.

The head is a styrofoam head (spray painted black) with a halloween mask placed on it. The head is attached to the body by pushing the top of the hanger into the styrofoam head and pulling the hoodie up over the head.

Then, I wrapped his arms around me and my fake body in front- attaching with velcro in front of me.

Hopefully I covered everything! The whole thing was a lot of trial and error, duck tape, stuffing, and safety pins. I'm sure sewing would make this a little cleaner but I don't have a machine so I made do.

Then I added some bruising for effect.

Really awesome responses form everyone. Even scared my husband once we had it all put together!
