Monsters Inc Boo Costume

Our daughter was born with a lot of hair and very early on we could put it up in pigtails. Soon after, we started to get a lot of “she looks just like Boo from Monsters Inc.”, so, that costume idea was given to us...again, and again.

The body of the costume is a 2 sizes too large winter coat, altered and re-stuffed to be worn backwards. The head piece is made from fabric taken from the coat’s hood and sleeves. Wire hangers and a couple of nylon frisbees, which were free swag from a street fair, give the head structure and stability to the eyes (painted styrofoam balls with felt accents). Finally, all of the scales are painted on with puffy paint.

Creating a costume for a 1 and a half year old is a bit of a gamble. Chances were high she would reject the entire thing as soon as that first arm entered sleeve and Halloween would be over. We were also pushing it with a costume that covered her head. Tip: Keep anything that has to sit on the head as light as possible and be sure it can be removed completely and quickly. Velcro was our method of choice.
