This Halloween, I decided to dress as Moana with my pup, Luna, as Heihei the chicken!
Moana is my absolute favorite Disney movie. As an Anthropologist and a (beginner) hula dancer I have so much respect for the Indigenous peoples of Oceania—their resilience, strength and warmth are so inspiring. I’ve never felt more welcomed and at home than when I began hula for example. Overall, these are the real reasons that I wanted to dress as Moana, though the movie itself was lovely. Besides, we all enjoyed seeing the pup run around as a chicken all day!
