This homemade costume for couples entered our 2013 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Stephanie, the 'Mary Poppins and Bert' costume creator:

I am Mary Poppins and my boyfriend was Burt. I made my costume's skirt from fabric and elastic, hat from cardboard, fake flowers, fabric, beads (as cherries) and hot glue; you can find how I made my hat at this blog. I then made my bow tie from hot glue and ribbon, and made my boyfriend's chimney broom from a dollar store broom: I got two extremely stiff pieces of cardboard and cut them into identical sized circles (about 4 inches in diameter) and pulled out all of the broom bristles out of the screw off bottom and hot glued them all on one cardboard circle and then glued the two pieces together and then onto the broom handle. Finally, I spray painted the entire broom black.

I bought my shirt online.

I bought my gloves on ebay.

And I already owned my peacoat, purse, umbrella, and boots. My boyfriend's outfit is all clothes that he originally owned as well.

Total time to make was about two weeks and it cost around thirty dollars to make, excluding all of our original clothing. :)
