This homemade costume for girls entered our 2016 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Graycelin, the 'Maleficent' costume creator:

Graycelin Marlowe- Alpers (12 yrs) is wearing the costume. The inspiration came from Graycelin’s love for the 2014 movie “Maleficent”. Graycelin came up with the design for how to create the costume. We used aluminum foil and electrical tape for the headpiece, the dress was made of a pleather fabric that we sewed, the wings were formed from wire and cardboard. We hand-glued over 200 individual feathers to the wings, the wing harness was made from a deconstructed backpack that was spray-painted and had feathers glued onto it, the wing tips were formed from paper mache and were hand painted. The collar was made from interfacing, fabric, and wire so it could stand up on its own, the staff was made from a hollowed out bamboo stalk, a repurposed light-up staff, and electrical tape.

Total time: 30-35 hours
Total cost: $120
Designed by Graycelin (12)
Creation was a family effort :)
