A word from Bonnie and Beth, the 'Little Shop of Horrors' costume creators:

Everybody better beware! The Little Shop of Horrors is open for business. Gryphon is playing the part of Seymour, the young florist shop clerk who stumbles upon a very unusual plant, which he names Audrey II. Phoenix plays Audrey II, the man eating plant from outer space who is out for blood. Seymour is feeding drops of blood from his finger into Audrey II's gaping toothy mouth. This causes the plant to grow and grow, and it's tendrils continue to spread until they are taking over the florist shop, and just might take over the world. This photo was taken live, without use of photoshop type programs.

We decided to create these costume because we have always loved this play, and thought it was a cool and creepy theme for Halloween. It took us a few months to create and assemble these costumes and scenery from different materials, objects, and pieces from other costumes and clothing. Creating Audrey II involved cutting out the bottom of a very large plastic pot to fit over Phoenix's head, and creating tendrils out of jumbo chenille stems, with leaves created from felt and wire, as well as altering a plant headpiece and adding teeth and leaves. The Seymour costume involved putting together different clothing pieces, gluing in stuffing, altering them to fit a dog, and attaching it all together to make arms and legs.
