Iridescent Butterfly Costume

Throughout the year I scoure thrift stores for anything sparkly that could be used for a halloween costume. I found the sequin butterfly top and decided to transform into a human butterfly! The skirt was also a lucky thrift store find. I first drew the wing shape onto cardboard and cut/laid thick wire over the template. The pieces were held together with foil tape. The wings ended up being very heavy. I had to have my boyfriend help me engineer a way to make them wearable and stay upright. He made an infitity sign like strap made out of wire and a ton more foil tape and extra pieces of wire for weight to counterbalance. He is a genuis because they stayed in place all night while I worked a busy bar! I used spray adhevsive and irridescent wrapping paper on the wings and further fused the two sides of wrapping paper together by ironing over a towel on low heat. The butterflies were from amazon but I covered them in blue/green/irridescent glitter. 🦋
