Gumball Machine

Costume type:  Costumes for Girls
Category:Halloween Costumes

This homemade costume for girls entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Desiree, the 'Gumball Machine' costume creator:

My daughter is wearing the costume we made together. She is a gumball machine. Got the idea from a pintrest. Material used in the making of this costume were: Red Fabric (skirt/base of gumball machine), white t- shirt, clear shower curtain liner, a red hat, cardboard, cardstock, silver wrapping paper, ribbon, elastic and ball pit balls.
I sewed up the skirt. I cut a square of cardboard for the coin slot and made the wind up thing with cardboard also. wrapped all that up with the silver wrapping paper. I gave it the 3 d look by cutting 3 circles out of cardboard glue to the coin area with the wind up part glued to those. Cut and bend cardstock and wrap with silver wrapping paper this is where the gumball comes out at the bottom. I used old fabric I had and cut circles and hot glued to t-shirt. I also hot glued one to the bottom where the gum ball would come out. I took the shower curtain liner and sewed to the rim of t shirt. make sure you leave the plastic baggy so you can add the ball pit balls to it. Put elastic through holes in shower curtain and tighten around the hips. Put in ball pit balls . Make sure the elastic is tied tight after putting balls in and tuck into skirt. Place coin slot on with a hole puncher and ribbons. I used safety pins to keep the bottom part on where the ball comes out. put on a red hat and you are done.
