A word from Carol, the 'Garden Gnome' costume creator:
My daughter doesn't want her 11 month old baby girl to grow up to be a "girly girl." They live in the country and have lots of beautiful gardens, so she decided that the little one would make a perfect garden gnome. My daughter doesn't sew, so she called on Grandma (me) to make her costume. I have always loved making costumes for my own kids, so I was thrilled to be called upon to make one for my granddaughter. I bought some bright orange stretchy infant pants and an over-sized blue shirt at a thrift store. Then I bought some colorful felt and made her a pointed red gnome hat trimmed with a mushroom design, a yellow vest with a mushroom decoration, a brown belt with buckle and some pointy-toed shoes. For the final touch that pulled it all together I bought some white feather boa and created a "beard" which I attached to the chin strap of the hat. I think she looks like the most adorable little garden gnome ever!
