A word from Carla, the 'E.T. and Elliot' costume creator:

My son Carlos is wearing this costume. He's 12 yrs old which can be a tough age when it comes to trick or treating since he's borderline "too cool". We really wanted to do something creative and use household items to make his costume fun to wear and cool enough to show off and who didn't love ET?!? To make this costume, we used PVC pipes, white sheet, white towel, a milk crate, string, ties, paint/brush, masking tape, an ET mask, bicycle handles a red hooded jacket and pair of jeans, all from home. First we created the bike look by using the ties to attach one pvc pipe t the back of the crate and attached the bike handles to the ends of the pipe. We connected the remaining 2 pvc pipes making a "7" shape to create a body for ET. Them, wrapped the "body" portion of the pipe with a pillow and taped it to give it a body shape. We used the small hand towel to wrap the neck and face portion of the pipe which filled in the face behind the mask. Then we set that in the milk crate and tied a string around the body and attached to the milk crate so that the ET body didn't fall over or shift around. Next, we put the mask on to complete the face and wrapped ET in the white sheet as shown in the movie. Carlos wore the red jacket and blue jeans (jeans not shown here). We used another piece of string around carlos' shoulders/neck to support the costume. The paint was used to touch up ETs face. We added reces pieces in the crate for ET in case he got hungry :) (not shown here. This costume idea was so easy o make and additional ideas can be added to it if you choose. Needless to say, we had some family fun creating it and cool trick or treater! :)
