Creepy Scarecrow Costume

I wanted to do something creepy without gore. This costume definitely delivered! I scared so many people at work I had to take off the mask!

First I built up the head shape using a Styrofoam head, tape, aluminum foil and newsprint. I covered the entire head in plastic wrap before draping over glue soaked burlap. I used pins to sculpt the burlap into facial details and left to dry for 48 hours. Once dried I shaded dark areas using acrylic paint. I sewed seams over the eyes and mouth using twine.
I used a children’s paper cowboy hat and distressed it using acrylic paint, twine sandpaper I constructed the hands from a pair of workout gloves and long steel wire that I wrapped in twine. The outfit was created from an old pair of sweat pants and a flannel shirt that I distressed with acrylic paints. Straw was glued inside the foot and arm holes to complete the scarecrow look.
This is one of my favorite costumes. I have made several masks since using this technique.
