A word from Robin, the 'Charlie's Firetruck' costume creator:

My three year old son is wearing the fire man's costume. He wanted to be a firetruck for halloween, but he is not one that would wear a cardboard box, so we had to come up with something else. My friend's son is the dalmatian to go with the fireman and firetruck! We started with a used wagon and build a frame around it to support the truck's weight. Then we used plywood as the truck itself and cut it out. We changed the look as we went along to make it look better. We used a flashing dash board light as the light on the truck. The hose was made of plumbing hose as it was light and easy to move. The hose wheel was made of an empty rope spin from the hardware store. We painted the truck with different techniques- for example the windows were sponged to try to give it a different look than the painted sides. My son's name is Charlie and his favorite number is 4. His jacket was a used jacket and same for his boots. His hat came from the local fire department. The dalmatian- my friend's son Dawson came by that costume by being given it from another family who outgrew it. As the boys rode around in the truck they were very excited and made the "siren" noise. My son also would say after each stop that "if there is a fire, we'll put it out!"
