A word from Chelsi, the 'Carl Fredericksen from the movie Up' costume creator:

My 23 month old son is wearing a costume as the old man, Carl Fredericksen, from the movie "Up" by Disney and Pixar. My inspiration for thus costume came from this movie being one of our favorite movies to watch together, but also because I have yet to find a costume on the Internet where the kid or adult has a cane that is shaped and looks like Mr.Fredericksen's cane. I literally decided on this costume in less than 2 hours (including filling the balloons with Helium at the store) for a Halloween trick-or-treat event a few days before Halloween. I used an old belt from one of my old costumes and cut it to fit his waist, grabbed some moccasin-like shoes like Carl wears, and looked through my son's clothes for matching pants and a sweater like Carl's. I used a bow tie that I had bought a few months back for $0.50, that I used for a different purpose and took my son's sunglasses and popped the lens out to look more old man-like. For the cane, my dad helped me. We took the bottom part off of his tool bench chair which was circular with wheels and we removed the wheels (anything circular would probably work). I then found 4 tennis balls around the house and drilled holes through the bottom of each one to put a bolt and washer through to hold it to the bottom of the tool bench chair I used. Then I got PCV piping for the rest if the cane. One long piece was used for the straight vertical part and 2 corner pieces (L-shaoed pieces) were used to for the handle with a smaller straight piece in the middle. Then I used black tape around the piping so it wasn't white! Everyone LOVED this costume and it was the easiest and cheapest to make! The only thing that cost money was the balloons with helium which cost $7.50!!
