Bug Family Costume

My son, Leo, was really excited about scorpions this summer. When I asked him what he wanted to be for Halloween, his answer was immediate--a scorpion! He also loves snails, so we picked a garden snail for his little brother, Felix. That left Mom and Dad to pick our own bug-themed costumes; Dad wanted to be Super Fly (a hodgepodge of pop culture references and plays on words) and I wanted to be the Queen of my very own anthill. All four costumes were made and designed by me. Felix's snail shell and suit were made with a pattern of my own design from fabric I already had on hand. Leo's scorpion was made with fabric I had on hand, pool noodles for the tail, and glow in the dark paint. I used my Cricut to make all of the following for Dad: the Super Fly shirt, the Jeff Goldblum mask ("The Fly"), and the sticker eyes on the Bud Light sunglasses. I then rounded everything off for him with a simple hero cape I made from red fabric. I also used the Cricut to make my mandible mask and the tunnels for my anthill dress, and then hand stitched the little plastic ants to it.
