A word from Andrea, the 'Beauty and the Beast' costume creator:
Though I've always loved making ballgowns, this is my first time making a costume for a dog! Since both costumes are sewn from scratch, they have to start off with patterns. My top came from a commercial corset pattern, and the skirt was made by pinning and draping fabric onto a mannequin. To make my dog Loki's pattern, I put one of my old shirts on him and pinned it so that it had a closer fit, drew lines on the shirt where the seams should be, and cut along the lines to make the pattern.
For materials, I found some beautiful gold satin on clearance, as well as gold appliques, and dollar store roses which I spray painted gold. Loki's costume is made from stretch taffeta, which looks fancy but is inexpensive and has some stretch which is perfect for a dog, white lace trim for the necktie, and leftover gold appliques. The wig was from Amazon, which I styled to look like Belle, and the hairpiece was made from extra gold roses, fabric, and wire.
