A word from Robert, the 'Apollo 13 Astronaut' costume creator:

I have always wanted to dress up as an Astronaut for halloween but all the store bought costumes seem a little lacking in detail and accuracy. So I decided to do some research and make my own. I found a gentleman that posted a suit he made a few years ago that looked great. So I went with his basic idea and came up with my suit you see here. This took me a good solid month to get all the materials and build the suit. I bought most of the stuff online and Lowes. The pictures you see were of me wearing the suit for the very first time. I love the way it turned out and I hope you do too!

Google "acrylic globe" and you should find what you need.

Hello there! I am looking for resources for my halloween costume this year, and when I came across this page I was absolutely floored! If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to chat with you personally and ask a couple questions. My email is walkartworld[at]gmail.com. I'd really appreciate if you could contact me if you have the time. Thanks!

This is amazing! My 4 yr old wants to be an astronaut for Halloween and the store bought costumes to me look so cheap. What materials did you use for the suit? Also does the acrylic dome cut off air supply in any way?

Hey Melody, I love that your 4 year old wants to be an astronaut. And you're right, most of the astronaut costumes you find do look cheap. Which is probably the biggest reason I made this one. The suit itself is made out of a painters suit I bought at Lowe's. If you want to go one step better in quality you can buy a bee keepers suit. And the acrylic doesn't cut off air supply but it will fog up. I couldn't wear the helmet for too long just because it kept fogging up. If you want to get fancy you can put tiny fans inside to keep the air flowing but that could be complicated. I hope this helps and answers your questions.

I have the acrylic globe and I didnt see your comment in time so I bought fabric to sew his costume. I'm so grateful you told me about the fogging issue! I did a little research and it seems with a fan, on off switch, 9v connector and 9v battery I could correct the issue. Wish me luck, and thanks so much for responding!
