A word from Stephanie, the 'Vending Machine' costume creator:
This is my son, Devon in his "vending machine costume. I try to make his costumes every year, which is usually made from a large square box (last year he was a washing machine!) I started with a box and cut openings for the arms and head.I cut the front center of the box, folded it, so it created the area where the candy would go. I lined this area with black wrapping paper. I selected 8 candy bars and carefully removed the chocolate. I bought a metal slinky at Target($1) and cut it into 8 sections.I then glued each empty candy bar to each slinky section and glued it to the box. I covered most of the front with black wrapping paper, and painted the rest of the box with black paint.I made the "glass" by using clear plastic wrap that I got at the Dollar tree for $1. I used small letter and number stickers at my local craft store for $2.50. To make the rest of the front panel, I simply used pieces of cardboard and wrapped them in tin foil.To finish it off, I added an adhesive foam strip to line the head and arm openings, so the cardboard is more comfortable to wear. Must say it turned out very cute and it was gentle on the wallet as it only took about $10 to make.
