A word from Torrie, the 'Two Vikings and a Ship' costume creator:

Hey guys!!! My husband and I were married 8 yrs ago, I had a son age 6, when Halloween rolled around my husband decided he was going to make him a costume our of cardboard. He chose to make wall-E from the Pixar film. It was AMAZING! We have since had 2 more children and he has continued the annual event of making their costumes out of cardboard and hot glue. I have an annual mess in my house of cardboard pieces and scraps and melted hot glue balls! The mess and construction usually begins in July! We have had some fantastic costumes in the past, but I think this one is by far my favorite!! This year he decided to make them into vikings with their very own dragon leading viking ship! He decommissioned my lawn cart right in the middle of soccer and lacrosse season to start the construction of the ship! The ship comes complete with a rutter, a mast and sail, working/movable oars and a fierce dragon at the bow. He did matching shields, weapons, and helmets -all out of cardboard! In the meantime I was at work hand making their viking costumes. Once the cardboard creations are finished I start the time consuming process of painting! First coats are primer then base layer followed by layers of acrylic. We always seem to make our finishing touches in the nick of time! My husband is a fantastic father all around and I am always so proud of him and his friggin crazy cardboard skills!! I hope you guys love this one as much as I do!!! Thanks for looking!!My son Daxton is 5 (goes by RAGNAR), his costume is sewn together and I used a vinyl for the "leather" look at his belt and arm and leg cuffs that I first ran through the sewing machine to add a "stiched" look and more detail. His cape is fur overlayed w/fur under his cuffs. The chain is stiched in as well as the collar medallions. My daughter Kinley is 2 1/2 (goes by OLGA)has similar features with slight variations including a gold helmet with gold trims.
