A word from Emily, the 'The Sanderson Sisters' costume creator:

My sister, cousin and I are wearing the costumes. I am Winifred, the sister in the middle. I got my idea last year as we watched our favorite Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus. I am glad I thought of the idea then, because it took a long time to get together. For Winifred's costume I added ribbons, buttons and hooks to a dress. Then I took a green cape and added a cardboard box to the neck to make it stand up and gold puff paint around the border. I added a hook in place of the ribbon to make it look more custom. I made a necklace and some earrings to complete the look. I added buck teeth and white pointy fingernails, and removed my eyebrows to really get into character. Then I bought a brown book, took polymer clay and made snakes and an eyeball and made the spell book. Add one broom stick and viola. For Mary (on left) I got a plaid skirt and sewed on a plaid piece of fabric and pockets. Then I took a maroon tank top and sewed on gold rings. I dyed a shirt orange and added a burgundy cape. The hair was tricky. I bought a black wig with purple streaks and made a base out of a cup and wire and bobby pinned it to the hair. Then I worked it and twisted it around the cup and wire until I got the designed look. After a bunch of hairspray, we had success! Add a vacuum and you are done! For Sarah's costume I got a tank top and dyed it pink and added puff paint for pizzazz. Then I sewed on purple flouncy fabric and attached a skirt. I cut some sleeves out of an old top and added them to the tank top. I added a cape with a hook to complete the look. After all of that, the Sanderson Sisters came to life! The thing that I think made my costumes most successful was the attention to detail. When we wore it to the costume party that turned out not to be a costume party, and were the only ones dressed up, everyone cheered when we walked in the room and said we looked just like them.
