This homemade costume for women entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Annette, the 'Statue of Liberty' costume creator:

Hurricane Sandy got so bad that I (the Statue of Liberty) had to travel to Florida to escape the weather! I made this entire costume out of fabric I had at home and various other materials. For the dress, it's all fabric sewn together. The torch was made with paper (in the shape of a paper towel roll) and covered with fabric. I added ribbon, yellow/orange tissue paper and black construction paper for detail. The crown was a kid's foam visor that I covered with fabric and used cardboard (also covered in fabric) to make the spikes. To give my skin the green statue effect, I used a mix of forest green and white snazaroo face paint and applied it with a sponge.

I included what I could on the description above. The costume was mostly just made of colored fabric draped over me. The skin is snazaroo face paint-- a mix of forest green and white!
