Spaghetti and Meatball Costumes

Costume type:  Costumes for Kids
Category:Halloween Costumes

This homemade costume for kids entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Jessica, the 'Spaghetti and Meatball' costume creator:

My twin boys, age 2, are dressed as spaghetti and meatball. The more rotund one is the meatball ;) They were going through a spaghetti phase at the time. To make the meatball, I cut six bathroom hand towels (looped surfaces on both sides of terry cloth) into tear-drop shapes, sewed them up and included a zipper along one of the edges. I left the top slightly open so he could squeeze his head through there, and I finished the edge. I also left small openings along the seams for legs and arms. He wore brown leggings on bottom and a velour hoodie. The meatball was put on last-minute and we stuffed it with batting before zipping. The spaghetti costume was basically a red sweatsuit with large gauge wool yarn attached via the sewing machine. I also sewed yarn around several elastic bands and put those around my son's waist and chest (like a hula skirt). The fork was made by cutting the tines off a plastic beach/sand rake, then drawing a fork handle and tines on heavy cardboard, cutting two of these out, and taping them to the plastic rake remnants. The whole thing was finished by encasing it all in foil and plastic packing tape to give a smooth look.
