|Costume type:||Costumes for Boys|
This homemade costume for boys entered our 2013 Halloween Costume Contest.
My son Brandon is a huge fan of Sonic The Hedgehog, when he said he wanted to dress up like his favorite character, we went shopping for costumes.He was not happy with the look of the costumes that they had available for purchase. He challenged me into recreating the blue Sega Genesis hero. I got to work starting with a trip to the local thrift store, where I bought blue pants and 2 long sleeved shirts,(blue and tan). I proceeded to cut a large oval shape and arms off of the tan shirt, sewing the oval fabric on the "belly" of the blue shirt. cut arms off blue shirt sewed tan arms on. The tricky part was the head, I bent and shaped a frame out of wire hangers and used strips of newspaper dipped into flour/water mix. I used poster and acrylic paint for the finishing touches.
This costume was a hit at Brandon's school and trick or treating in the neighborhood. Truly a labor of love. :)
