This homemade costume for boys entered our 2017 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Jonathan, the 'Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots' costume creator:

These costumes were built for my sons, Noah (6) and Levi (3). As an art teacher, I enjoy taking on the task of putting together their Halloween costumes. They do everything together, so naturally they wanted to do some kind of partner costume. I don't really sew or work much with fabric so as we were brainstorming ideas we tried focusing on things I could construct mostly out of cardboard. This summer they came up with the idea to be the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. The costume is constructed of cardboard, masking and duct tape, hot glue, Styrofoam spheres and spray paint. Obviously the boys are not the same size, so each piece had to be scaled to fit each child. One of the biggest challenges was constructing a rigid costume that articulated in the right places so they would actually be able to trick or treat in them! As far as how to instructions go, it as a lot of measuring and calculations then trying things on and making alterations. The most useful technique was scoring the top layer of cardboard and orienting the corrugation in the appropriate direction in order to achieve smooth curves and bends. Overall they turned out to be a HUGE success.

Thank you
