R2-D2 and Princess Leia Costumes

"Help me Obi-wan Kenobi. You're my only hope..."

Costume type:  Costumes for Kids
Categories:Halloween Costumes, Movie and TV Show Costumes

This homemade costume for kids entered our 2011 Halloween Costume Contest, and won 3rd place in the Best Children's Costume nomination!

A word from Gregory, the 'R2-D2 and Princess Leia' costume creator:

These are my kids wearing costumes that my wife created. Leia's costume is made from a bed-sheet and an old brown shirt.

R2D2 is made from a cardboard box, kinked and creased in order to be rounded. R2's helmet is a big metal mixing bowl. All other accessories are mostly Styrofoam sheets with adhesive and other household items.

This is seriously some of the coolest kids costumes I have ever seen. Great Job!

Awesome! Details please on how you made R2D2. Did you use a sewing pattern for Leia?

Hi, I would love to make Leia's costume for my niece to wear to my 9 year old's star wars party!! Is there a pattern? xx

As best as I can remember, i traced my daughter's t-shirt onto fabric and made sure the sleeves were long and wide, as well as the tunic itself. For the hood, I used a Jedi robe pattern (just the hood portion). In fact, now that I think about it, maybe using that pattern can serve as Leia's tunic pattern even better than tracing a t-shirt. Just don't cut the front panel.

If I ever write a tutorial on these costumes, I'll make sure to post a link here. Thanks!
