This homemade costume for boys entered our 2015 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Humberto, the 'R2D2' costume creator:

I made this costume for my son. Last year I made a basic robot with cardboard boxes for my self but he challenge me this year and asked me if I could make a robot for him.

I said yes right away thinking he wanted something similar.

The first think he said after I said yes was, "I want you to make r2d2 for me" it was like omg how am I going to come up with something like that.

I started looking at pictures and videos of r2d2 to get ideas on what to use.


  • 1 - 36" diameter by 36" high cardboard cylinder bought at a construction supply store. $25
  • salad bowl $6
  • poster board $2
  • white & blue paint. $10
  • 2 wood boards 2x6x8' for feet. $10
  • 4 furniture dolley wheels. $20
  • pvc drain grates for air vents. $12
  • flashing floating lights for light effects. $10
  • Bluetooth speaker velcroed in the inside to play r2d2 sound effects. $20
