A word from Natasha, the 'Pokemon Go Trainer and PokeStop' costume creator:

My husband and I are big fans of the hottest game of 2016, Pokémon go , so we knew that we had to make our costumes based off that. My costume is the "lured pokestop" featuring Pokémon inside my lure just like the game, and my husband is wearing a "team instinct trainer avatar" costume featuring his walk a buddy, squirtle, which is a feature of the game. My costume is a very important component of the game Pokémon go. A pokestop is a place in the game where players go to collect ammo, potions and raspberries to use on their journey to catch em all. A lure is what players can throw onto a pokestop to draw more unique Pokémon to come to you. I thought the pokestop lure would be a fun costume to wear so I started to brainstorm my idea. I purchased various foam shapes from a craft store, paint, pink card stock, and fishing line to make my pokestop. I attached them all to make a spinning ring and used straws stuffed into my wreath foam and pink border paper to make a 3D lure ring to hang my lure strips onto. I cut hearts out one by one on card stock and threaded them with a needle onto my fish line and tied triple knots under each heart to keep them from sliding down, I wanted it to look as realistic as possible. I then glued the entire thing onto a headband to wear on top of my head. I had found my blue dress to wear in my summer clothes. I purchased a blue wig and added pink extensions. I added Pokémon pinned to my dress for my Pokémon stuck in the lure. 8 made my pokeball purse from a round purse I got at a thrift store which i painted to look like a Pokeball which is a weapon used In the game which you collect from the stops. I also made a max potion which is the best medicine you can collect in the game to spray your Pokémon to make them strong. I used an empty cleanser bottle and filled it with water dyed blue. I made a label from a sticker and wrote max potion on it. For my makeup I used blue and glitter to make my eyes look big and stand out. For my husbands trainer costume we ordered him some team instinct apparel from a website and bought reflective tape at a fabric store to make his clothes stand out, which we taped to his pants and sleeves. I painted a pokeball on his cheek with face paint purchased at the drug store. We used a giant squirtle that we already owned to have him carry as his Pokémon "walk a buddy". In the game walk a buddy is a feature where a player selects a pokemon to walk on the journey with to earn candy to make that particular one faster to evolve. He also wore trainer gloves and a backpack filled with poke balls purchased at a toy store. He also wore light up tennis shoes and glow stick necklaces. His pokeball belt was purchased in summer at a craft show. When we went out he carried the big squirtle mostly on his shoulders. We walked around singing the Pokémon song and I squirted the air with my max potion. I also would walk around in circles like I was really spinning. We had everyone at the party staring at us and wanting pictures with us. They all wanted to dance with squirtle and spin my pokestop. Some people wanted to throw our pokeball props and try to catch my Pokémon in my lure! We had people smiling and dancing with us all night. We really caught em all wearing these homemade costumes!
