Mr. and Ms. Pacman Costume

The idea for this costume only came around because we had a friend having a costume party and we wanted something homemade and loved by our generation. We didn’t want to do something generic and finally decided on Pacman and Ms. Pacman. We had never seen this costume before, and we had to come up with the best way to make it. We quickly learned weight would be a big factor. Because of this we chose to make the shape out of cardboard.


After finding durable cardboard boxes large enough to make the costume we could stand in we cut out the sides of Pacman and Ms. Pacman. We didn’t want it to look like it was made of cardboard we purchased yellow felt to give it a more finished look. Now we had the sides cut out we had no way to attach them together. We only have a Honda Civic so we had to be able to disassemble them to fit in the trunk. I had some empty rolls of plotting paper laying around with the end caps for mounting them so I decided to use those. After measuring our shoulders and giving a little extra room to be able to put the costume on I cut the tubes to length. I used duct tape to get the paper roll end caps to stay in place on the sides, this way we could leave the tubes off until we got there. Using extra fabric we glued a section to one side of the costume and used self-adhesive velcro to attach to the other side. Once the tubes were in place we velcroed the sides together forming the complete costume.


Everyone loved the costumes, and we had a great time wearing them.
